As a service to CAPA members and potential members, we will organize a workshop for sharing ideas on parenting and child education.
CAPA Parenting - Child Education Workshop
Date: Saturday, March 21, 2009
Time: 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm
Location: 9600 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX (MetroBank 2nd floor, above Dynasty Supermarket on the south side)
Who should attend: Parents with children of all ages (especially those in schools or before schools), no children please.
Cost: Free.
Program: brief presentation by panelists, followed by idea exchanges.
Include the following in your mail:
- the name(s) of participants (you and/or your spouse);
- are you or your spouse a CAPA member?
- your preferred communication method (phone, email, etc.)
- your children (age, boys or girls);
- state one thing you are the most proud of in your own parenting experience (what you or your children did);
- one top question you would like to ask.
Acceptance: The workshop will limit to 50 participants. The acceptance priority will follow the order of the emails received; current members and their spouses will be accepted first before the non-members. You will receive a reply email regarding your registration.
Panelists:
Grace Shen (劉緯)
- two sons both Harvard graduates;
- high school science teacher for 13 years;
- founder, teacher, principal and chairman of the board, Evergreen Chinese School;
- newspaper columnist, TV host and radio station host on youth education;
- author of three books on Chinese American youth education.
Steve Chang (張世恭)
- two daughters MIT and Stanford graduates;
- leader/manager for 25 years;
- honorary lecturer for SEG in Asia;
- parent leader, vice principal, principal and chairman of the board, NWCS Chinese School (Somers, New York);
Dr. JC Wan (萬季春)
- the president of CAPA in 2008;
- two children, currently one in high school;
- over 17 years industry experience in oil and gas exploration;
- currently a Geophysical Advisor at El Paso E&P Company;
- BS in Physics from Nanjing University (1984) and Ph.D. in Physics from University of Minnesota (1991).
- JC represents the majority of parents today to share his experience and concerns.
James Wang (王淼)
- graduated from from University of Texas, Austin, in 2006 with M.P.A. and B.B.A degrees;
- ranked #1 in Undergraduate Class of 2006 in the McCombs School of Business / Dean's List all semesters;
- currently with First Reserve, the leading private equity firm specializing in the energy industry;
- previously as a Financial Analyst in the Global Natural Resources Group at Lehman Brothers;
- several Summer Intern experiences at Shell Exploration & Production Company and at Deloitte & Touche.
- James will represent the second generation, the receiving end of parenting, to express his experiences and feelings.
